Why we recommend it

A joystick is the fastest way to get an arm moving under manual control before you write any motion planning: each module gives two analog axes and a push button, so two sticks can drive the base, shoulder, elbow and gripper of a 4-DOF arm. Read the axes on the Arduino's analog pins, map the values to servo angles or to small incremental moves, and use the button to open and close the gripper. Incremental control, where holding the stick moves a joint slowly, feels far better than mapping stick position straight to angle. A five-pack covers a two-stick controller with spares.
