The KY-040 is the go-to incremental encoder for Arduino projects. On an arm it has two uses: as a manual jog dial to drive a joint by hand while you test, and as a cheap way to start learning quadrature position sensing. The integrated push-button is handy for cycling modes or homing. Five modules give you one per joint for a multi-knob control panel, or spares. Works with Arduino, ESP32 and Raspberry Pi.
