The MG90S keeps the SG90's tiny footprint and mounting holes but swaps the plastic gear train for metal, which is the difference between a gripper that survives a hard close and one that strips a tooth. It is the right servo for the lightweight far end of an arm — wrist rotation, wrist pitch and the gripper — where every gram is multiplied by the arm's reach, but where plastic gears give out under repeated load. Because it is dimensionally interchangeable with the SG90, you can print a design for micro servos and upgrade joint by joint as parts wear. For shoulder and elbow joints on anything bigger than a desk arm, step up to the MG996R.
