Why we recommend it

The TMC2209 is the driver to use when a stepper arm needs to be quiet and smooth, for example one running near people or one whose joints visibly vibrate at low speed. It fits the same stepstick socket as an A4988, so it drops into CNC shields and 3D-printer style boards, and it can run in plain step/direction mode or be configured over UART for finer current control. Its sensorless load detection can even replace a physical endstop for homing on some axes. Check the listing for the pack size you are buying, and set the current limit to your motor's rating before the first move.
