Why we recommend it

An ESP32-CAM puts a Wi-Fi microcontroller and a 2MP OV2640 camera on a board the size of a postage stamp, which makes it a lightweight way to add a video feed or simple colour tracking to an arm without carrying a full Raspberry Pi. The board has no USB port of its own, so the included ESP32-CAM-MB base is genuinely useful: it plugs underneath and lets you flash code over USB-C. Expect to stream images to a laptop or phone and do heavier vision processing there; for on-board OpenCV at useful frame rates, a Raspberry Pi is the stronger choice.
